Introduction:
Lithuania, officially known as the Republic of Lithuania, is a Baltic country located in northern Europe. It borders Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east and south, Poland to the southwest, and Russia (Kaliningrad Oblast) to the west. With a population of around 2.8 million, Lithuania is the largest of the three Baltic states.
Lithuania has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages, when it was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, one of the largest states in Europe. After centuries of Polish-Lithuanian rule, Lithuania became part of the Russian Empire in the 18th century. It regained independence after World War I, but was annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940. Lithuania declared independence again in 1990, and became a member of the European Union in 2004.
Today, Lithuania is a modern and prosperous country with a strong economy. It is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, including the Curonian Spit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also home to a vibrant cultural scene, with many museums, theaters, and art galleries.
