Introduction:
Poland, officially the Republic of Poland, is a country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Germany to the west, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south, Ukraine and Belarus to the east, and Lithuania and Russia (Kaliningrad Oblast) to the northeast. Poland covers an area of 312,696 square kilometers (120,733 square miles), making it the ninth-largest country in Europe. With a population of over 38 million, Poland is the fifth-most populous member state of the European Union.
Poland has a rich and complex history, dating back to the early Middle Ages. It was one of the largest and most powerful states in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries. However, Poland was partitioned by its neighbors in the late 18th century and did not regain independence until after World War I. During World War II, Poland was occupied by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. After the war, Poland became a satellite state of the Soviet Union until the collapse of communism in 1989. Poland joined the European Union in 2004.
Today, Poland is a thriving democracy with a strong economy. It is a member of the European Union, NATO, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Poland is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful cities, historic sites, and stunning natural scenery.
