Introduction:
Belarus, officially the Republic of Belarus, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe. It is bordered by Russia to the east and northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. Belarus covers an area of 207,600 square kilometers (80,155 square miles) and has a population of approximately 9.4 million.
Belarus is a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Eurasian Economic Union. The country has a semi-presidential system of government, with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The official languages of Belarus are Belarusian and Russian.
Belarus has a rich history and culture. The country was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the 14th to the 18th century. In 1793, Belarus was annexed by the Russian Empire. After the Russian Revolution in 1917, Belarus became part of the Soviet Union. Belarus gained independence in 1991, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Today, Belarus is a modern and prosperous country. The country has a strong economy, with a GDP per capita of approximately $6,000. Belarus is also a major agricultural producer, with a large export industry. The country is home to a number of historical and cultural attractions, including the Mir Castle Complex and the Nesvizh Castle.
