Introduction:
Vanuatu, formerly known as the New Hebrides, is an archipelago nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. It consists of approximately 83 islands, of which 65 are inhabited. The largest island is Espiritu Santo, while the most populous island is Efate. Vanuatu was jointly administered by France and the United Kingdom from 1906 until it gained independence in 1980. The country has a population of around 320,000 and covers a total land area of 12,190 square kilometers (4,710 square miles).
Vanuatu's economy is largely dependent on agriculture, tourism, and fishing. The main agricultural products include coconuts, cocoa, and kava. Tourism is a growing industry, with visitors attracted by the country's beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, and active volcanoes. Vanuatu is also a popular destination for scuba diving and snorkeling.
The people of Vanuatu are diverse, with over 100 different languages spoken throughout the islands. The official languages are Bislama, English, and French. Vanuatu is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations, and the Non-Aligned Movement.
