Introduction:
Tuvalu, formerly known as the Ellice Islands, is a Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean. It consists of nine small coral atolls with a total land area of just 26 square kilometers. Funafuti, the capital and largest atoll, is home to over half of the population. The other atolls include Nukulaelae, Nanumea, Niutao, Nui, Vaitupu, Nukufetau, Nukulakita, and Niulakita.
Tuvalu is a constitutional monarchy with a unicameral parliament. The head of state is the British monarch, currently Queen Elizabeth II, who is represented by a governor-general. The head of government is the prime minister. The country has a population of around 11,900 people, making it one of the smallest and least populous countries in the world.
The economy of Tuvalu is heavily dependent on fishing and tourism. The country also receives significant financial assistance from foreign governments. The main exports are fish, copra, and handicrafts. The official languages are Tuvaluan and English. The majority of the population is Christian, with a small minority of Baha'is.
Tuvalu is a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, and the Pacific Islands Forum. The country faces a number of challenges, including climate change, rising sea levels, and limited economic opportunities. However, Tuvalu has a strong cultural identity and a resilient spirit, and it is working to overcome these challenges and build a sustainable future.
