Introduction:
Rwanda, officially the Republic of Rwanda, is a small landlocked sovereign state in East-Central Africa and part of the African Great Lakes region. Rwanda is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is highly elevated with its geography dominated by mountains in the west and rolling hills in the east, and contains numerous lakes. The country has a tropical climate.
Rwanda is a republic led by a president who is head of state and head of government. The current president is Paul Kagame, who has been in office since 2000. Rwanda is a member of the United Nations, the African Union, the Commonwealth of Nations, and the East African Community.
Rwanda is a developing country with a GDP of $10.44 billion (nominal, 2021). The economy is primarily based on agriculture, with coffee, tea, and pyrethrum being the main exports. The country has been investing heavily in tourism, and its natural beauty and wildlife are major attractions.
Rwanda has a population of approximately 13 million people, with the majority being Hutu (84%) and Tutsi (15%). The country has a complex history, including a genocide in 1994 in which an estimated 800,000 people were killed. Since then, Rwanda has made significant progress in rebuilding and reconciliation, and is now considered one of the most stable and prosperous countries in Africa.
